Welcome! The Indian Leader Project is an initiative between the Haskell Cultural Center and the University of Kansas Libraries to make the first century of publication of The Indian Leader available free of charge to researchers online. First published at Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Kansas, in 1897, The Indian Leader is still published today and is the oldest Native American student newspaper still in publication. It is our hope in making these resources available that these unique stories and perspectives will inspire, inform, and educate about the continuing legacy of Indian boarding schools and their role in American history.
